A couple of weeks ago while on the hunt for a skin care product that would act like makeup, I came across the Clarins UV Plus tinted sunscreen. I picked it up at a Clarins counter, but you can also find it here.
The Clarins website still has this denoted as a “new” product, but I’m seeing reviews on it as early as March of 2016. I’ve also read that Clarins has launched several iterations of their UV Plus products, some of which are not tinted. So if you’re only looking for a sunscreen you can wear under your usual makeup, go take a look at this instead.
Clarins advertises this product as a “day screen.” While it comes power-packed with SPF 50, it’s also designed to serve as a “shield” against pollution and free radicals.
The texture is impossibly light and milky. I apply it just using my fingers and have no issues with blending. I do definitely recommend wearing it over top of a moisturizer, as it’s not designed to double as one.
As for coverage, I’ll let the pictures below do most of the talking. On the left, I’m wonderfully fresh-faced and unedited. On the right, I’ve applied only the Clarins UV Plus over top of my moisturizer. It covers my redness and gives my skin a filtered appearance without looking heavy. My friends don’t even notice when I’m wearing it.
For daytime, weekends, or any time I may want a little pick-me-up without doing a full face of makeup, I wear this alone. Other times, I let it double as my foundation, and use my under-eye concealer, bronzer, etc. right over top. It wears just as well as my favorite foundations and has given me no issues when putting other products on over top of it.
It comes in three shades; light, medium, and dark. In many BBs and tinted moisturizers, the light shades appear far too white or pink even on my naturally very fair skin. However, I wear the lightest shade of the UV Plus with no issue. The first time I wore this product I was concerned that it oxidized after having it on for a while, but quickly realized that had more to do with the lighting in the bathroom at my office than with the product itself.
I haven’t been using it long enough to speak to its anti-aging effects, but it’s safe to say that I’m far more motivated to protect my skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays when I don’t have to use a thick, shiny sunscreen on my sensitive skin! Always remember, you have to protect your skin during the winter months just as much as you do in the summer!
